For Dalton Owens, agriculture is all about helping farmers succeed. As a Maximum Farming System Associate based in Mattoon, Illinois, Dalton is passionate about working alongside farmers to improve efficiency, strengthen soil health, and make informed decisions that support long-term profitability.
While his career with Ag Spectrum is still in its early stages, Dalton has quickly built a reputation for his willingness to learn and help farmers do the same. “Having the Ag Spectrum team and wealth of knowledge around me is the most influential part,” he says. “I really couldn’t do this on my own.”
A Passion for Farmer Success
Dalton’s journey into agriculture began modestly. “I really didn’t grow up on a farm,” he explains. “I started working on my uncle’s farm part-time during hay season.”
What began as seasonal help grew into genuine interest as Dalton gained experience and responsibility. While attending Lake Land College, Dalton knew he wanted a career rooted in helping farmers. In the spring of 2021, he graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in crop sciences.
Along the way, Dalton gained valuable experience through internships showing him what he did and did not want to be a part of. “Seeing how some businesses treat customers and run fertilizer programs didn’t sit right with me,” Dalton says. “It seemed like it was money first instead of farmer first.” He wanted to help farmers reduce input costs, improve efficiency, and build healthier soils – not simply apply more fertilizer because it was convenient.
That mindset ultimately led him to Ag Spectrum and the Maximum Farming System.
Education and Expertise
After being introduced by District Sales Manager Dustin Warf, Dalton officially became an associate in January 2024. From the start, he leaned into company education. “Going to Ag Spectrum events and meetings helped ease my way into the company and learning the System,” he explains.

Hands-on mentorship from the Ag Spectrum team helped him develop both technical knowledge and confidence while learning how to lead farmers through the implementation of a systems-based approach to crop production.
"Having experienced people alongside me early on made a huge difference," Dalton says. "It helped me learn faster and better understand how to communicate the value of the System."
Service Beyond the Sale
The most rewarding part of the job for Dalton is seeing the System perform where it matters most – in the field.
Through regular Service Checks and field evaluations, he works with farmers throughout the season to monitor progress, answer questions, and help ensure management decisions align with their production goals.

“The Service Checks build up farmers’ confidence to help them realize they are doing the right thing,” he explains. “Digging the roots, cutting plants open, seeing how healthy everything shows that this System works,” Dalton says.
According to Dustin Warf, that commitment to follow-through has been one of Dalton's greatest strengths. “Dalton focuses on making sure the farmer understands what we’re working to accomplish, as well as what it was going to take to get the System implemented,” Warf says. “He does a great job following through with each Service Check, making sure everything is going as planned, which shows true commitment to bringing value to the farm.”
Even during a dry season, Dalton’s customer saw strong test weights and impressive yields. “Watching his face light up at the yield monitor… that made me really excited to be part of this,” Dalton mentions.
Kenton Carley, Ag Spectrum Area Manager, has watched Dalton’s confidence grow. He says, “Dalton knows it takes time to understand the System. Because of this, he is also patient with farmers, getting them to where they’re comfortable with the System.
Through his dedication to education, service, and long-term relationships, Dalton Owens is building a career around helping farmers succeed today, while strengthening their operations for the future.
